Wampum Purple Wristlet Wallet

The symbols in this design were inspired by the Onʌyoteˀa·ká· creation story. Both life from the sky to the sea are honored in this piece. The dome shapes are meant to represent the Sky World, from which Sky Woman came. The birds that caught her fall and the turtle that formed Turtle Island are among the symbols represented in this piece.

The colors are directly inspired by wampumpeg. Using digital technology, I was able to pull colors directly from the quahog shell beads. Wampum beads have historically been used both in regalia as well as in the creation of wampum belts. Wampum belts can be considered sacred forms of documentation. All of these elements were kept in mind during the creation of this design.

This wristlet can be used and appreciated by anyone.
